#6 Paris Women in Machine Learning & Data Science : ML for Voice Assistants, DS for Improved Epidemic Outbreak Response & Entrepreneurship
We were 90 people attending the 6th WiMLDS meet-up, hosted by Google Paris, where we were welcomed by Philippe.
We started with a talk from Alice Coucke from Snips, about a Private-by-Design Embedded Platform to Understand Spoken Language. In her talk, Alice explained how they trained their model for specific tasks and that they reduced its footprint to be able to run it on small devices like Raspberry Pi 3. You can check details in the paper and checkout what is behind the platform in their open source library.
Then, Quirine Ten Bosch from Institut Pasteur gave a talk on Data Science for Improved Epidemic Outbreak Response. In her talk she reviewed the history of analysis behind infectious diseases outbreaks. Then talked about the future and in particular the challenge of integrating data from numerous sources (social, weather, virus genetic sequences, …). She finished with an astonishing example on how she supported the outbreak response to plague in Madagascar.
For our last talk, Anne Boring from Sciences Po gave an interactive presentation about How to Close the Gender Gap in Entrepreneurship? In her talk, Anne focused on entrepreneurship but not only, and many concepts were easily extended to tech world. First, Anne started to illustrate this gap with statistics and examples from the audience. After exposing possible causes through different studies she finally led a discussion on action items. Attendees got very involved and the discussions continued during the cocktail.
Thank you to those of you who attended the 6th meet-up. We are glad to see that our community keeps growing, we are more than 1200 members!
The next meet-up will take place on the 28th of June 2018 at Capital Fund Management. The line-up will be announced soon on our meet-up page.
